TB Prevention with XFENCE Premier Wire Netting

January 2010

The big topic of discussion last week here at McVeigh Parker was the TB segment on Countryfile. We thought the following information may be useful for customers trying to prevent badgers from coming into contact with their herds.

A new product that we have imported from New Zealand is the Predator XFENCE, this fence has been specifically designed to withstand the aggressive nature of badgers. The XFENCE comes with the added advantage of a patented hinge joint within the fence pattern, this hinge allows the fence to have an apron fold either at the top or bottom of the fence which will act as a defence to burrowing or climbing predators. The X knot configuration is proven to be 24% stronger than any other and the unobtrusive smooth surface greatly reduces the risk of fleece removal or hide damage in livestock. The XFENCE comes with the added advantage of an XTRALIFE coating which provides a life 3-4 times longer than heavily galvanised wire. The high tensile wires are manufactured from primary metals only, providing you with a guaranteed strength everytime. The guaranteed elasticity of the wire will be able to take years of pressure without any deterioration to the fence line, meaning the fence in time will look as good as the day it was erected.

At their recent open day Harper Adams University College demonstrated their new bio secure area which they have constructed using XFENCE and welded mesh. Scott Kirby the farm manager there gave the following comment on TB prevention. 'Disease outbreak and in particular TB represent one of the greatest risks on many farms.  While many factors are out of our control, we can reduce risk on farms with effective bio security measures, one of the most effective ways to achieve this is the use of a bio secure perimeter fence around our most vulnerable areas'.
