Fencing & Landscaping News - October 2009
McVeigh Parker invite us to the races (but doesn’t gamble!)
The Fencing News was treated to a day at the races last month courtesy of McVeigh Parker, but rather than the event being one big jolly, the company had organised a number of speakers and presentations to not only discuss timber treatment, but also show us their super-strong new XFENCE®.
The first seminar was given by two doctors from Kora-Holzschutz (the German company responsible for treating McVeigh’s timber), who gave an in-depth presentation highlighting the benefits of their preservatives, explaining the science of treating timber and the importance of Hazard Class 4. Their treatment process is clearly rigid, kiln-drying redwoods to a moisture content of less than 28%, before treating with Kora CCON to the required retention levels with its chrome fixation - thus providing a product with longevity guaranteed.
This led us onto the unveiling of the exciting new product range from McVeigh, which takes full advantage of the meticulous treatment process previously discussed. Two speakers from New Zealand’s Euro Corp travelled across from the Kiwi isle to unveil the new brand from McVeigh with a superhero name to live up to its superior-strength.
The XFENCE® has been tested in harsh conditions and, coupled with Xtralife coating, is tough enough for all applications. What’s more, they’ve got the stats to back it up: with the trademark stiff-stay X Knot locking the fence’s horizontal and vertical wires together, making it 24% stronger than any other knot configuration.
Long-lasting, smooth and strong, these strong yet unobtrusive knots make the XFENCE® perfect for a number of uses: it’s been created to not only fill a large gap in the marketplace, but also designed with affordability in mind. Due to the elasticity of the fence, it can be spaced with intervals of up to 6m, and as it’s easily erected too, that’s a saving on both materials and labour.
The XFENCE® Predator is the latest edition to the range with all the properties of the XFENCE® plus the added advantage of having a patented hinge joint within the fence set up, this makes it particularly effective when trying to exclude predators such as badgers, otters and foxes – The Predator fence makes installation a lot easier, you can simple unroll, strain up, fold out and peg down, job done!
It was shown to be the strongest answer in the fight against the spread of TB in livestock, by creating an impenetrable ring fence thus preventing the risk of contact with badgers.
It’s easy to see McVeigh Parker are extremely proud at being chosen as the leading stockist and supplier of the XFENCE® brand and are confident of promoting its pedigree and high credentials to the UK market place.
Despite this being a day for betting, McVeigh certainly aren’t taking a gamble – offering customers an HC4 product that’s primed for ground contact, and backed with a 15 year guarantee and also offering a wire that is second to none, there is a fence for the future.
After the presentations were over, we were all treated to an afternoon of racing (so yes, I suppose it was a bit of a jolly...) The day went very well indeed, and despite going home with empty pockets, Westbank Timber Sales Director Lee Proctor sums up the general consensus: “McVeigh Parker are certainly raising the bar in agricultural fencing and although from a timber background, I was highly impressed by the XFENCE® Brand wire range of products that they are selling alongside the HC4 posts.”
Congratulations to McVeigh for their new brand: the odds are on and XFENCE® is sure to be a winner.

Landscape & Amenity - October 2009
X FENCE "Pushing the boundaries"
McVeigh Parker launch the new revolutionary X FENCE security system. X FENCE offers new dimensions in cost effective security and highway fencing that simply can't be overlooked. X FENCE delivers a far stronger and more resilient barrier than other historical fencing methods, such as Chain link and welded mesh. Its easier to erect and less imposing on the landscape than steel palisade.
X FENCE is manufactured from high tensile wires with a single vertical wire and the unique X Knot joint. The X Knot has been proven to be 24% stronger than any other wire knot configaration, which provides real strength to the fence.
The high tensile wires dissipate any pressure put upon the them, in recent highway trials the X FENCE recoiled a car travelling at over 60mph. X FENCE also has the added advantage of its XTRALIFE coating which extends its life 3-4 times more than heavily galvanised wire.
X FENCE security fencing is more difficult to cut, its self supporting resulting in fewer posts, less labour, it will not sag in time, it all adds up to a very cost effective answer to your next securty project.
